“capsule machines” (2023)

In this project, I observed the windows of neighboring high-rises from my room in midtown Manhattan over the course of 6 months and recorded interesting moments. I made looping video segments of various windows and loaded them onto 2.5” lcd screens which I then wired into vintage capsule machines to mimic the appearance of apartments at night. The chair positioned in front of the machines invites the viewer to come observe the inhabitants.

Each machine measures 88 x 34 x 30 cm and was sourced from an antique seller in rural Pennsylvania.
